8 steps to take for shiny skin
Clean your face-
You might be using a ten or twelve-step skincare routine, but it is of no use if you do not clean your skin thoroughly twice a day.
If you use any makeup on your skin, remove it first. It is better to invest in both an oil cleanser and a foaming cleanser.
First, take the oil cleanser and rub it between your palms. Massage it gently on your face and let it melt all the makeup. Then wash it off.
Let the foaming cleanser follow the oil cleanser.
Double cleansing is necessary if you wear makeup.
It has been a year since I last applied makeup. Well, I didn’t have to. Seems unbelievable, doesn’t it? Here’s my little secret which can help you get flawless skin without makeup-
- 1/2 tbsp gram flour
- 1/2 tbsp green gram flour
- A pinch of wild turmeric
- 1/2 tbsp fuller earth
Mix gram flour, green gram flour, fuller’s earth and wild turmeric into a bowl. Add enough water to it until you get a paste-like consistency. Apply this mixture onto your face and massage for 2 minutes before leaving it on for 5-7 minutes. Then wash it off.
Unusual ways to get perfect skin
Gram flour treats acne and has zinc in it that fights infections. It controls excess sebum production and calms down the skin. Green gram flour rejuvenates the skin, and it contains vitamin A and C that promise glowing skin. Wild turmeric /Kasthuri turmeric has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It protects our skin against harmful UV radiation and promotes skin rejuvenation. Fuller’s earth absorbs sebum, sweat, oil and dirt from the clogged pores and makes your skin radiant by helping you get rid of blemishes.

Ice facial
I do not think Skincare could get cheaper than this.
To do an ice facial, clean your skin using a face wash or the cleanser mentioned above. Then either take ice-cold water to splash your face 8-10 times or rub an ice cube all over your face. Then proceed with the rest of your morning skincare routine.
This step will tighten your pores, wake you up, take away that morning swelling from your face and give you that morning glow.
Facial steam
I take facial steam twice or thrice a week at least. It has improved the texture of my skin significantly. To take facial steam-
- Fill up a small pot with 1 cup of water. Add 1 Tbsp green tea to it and bring it to a full boil.
- Remove your makeup and clean your face with a gentle cleanser.
- Pour boiling water into a big glass bowl.
- Cover your head with a towel so that it drops down on either side of your face.
- Trap the steam so that it concentrates near your skin.
- Do not be very close to the steaming water- it can burn your skin.
- Take steam for 5 minutes.
- After that, you can apply toner and moisturizer.
- You can apply the face mask after taking steam. Post that, hydrate your skin.
Steam opens up your pores and helps loosen up any dirt buildup for deeper cleansing. It increases the blood circulation resulting in a healthy natural glow. It releases trapped sebum beneath your skin surface- a breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria.
Facial scrub
It is one of the most effective face scrubs I have ever used to get that glass skin effect. I like to use it after facial steam at least once a week. For this you need-
- 1/2 tomato
- 1/2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp castor sugar
On a half-cut tomato, put honey and sugar in between. Slowly start scrubbing your face with it for 5 minutes. Leave this scrub on for 10 minutes before washing it off.
Make sure that you massage gently.
Sugar will help you exfoliate your skin without drying it. Tomato will remove the tan and control sebum production while giving a beautiful glow to your face.

Shiny skin Face mask
You can use this face mask on alternate days. For this you need-
- 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tbsp instant coffee
- 1/4 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp honey
Take cocoa powder and instant coffee in a bowl. Add lemon juice and honey to it. Finally, add enough water until you get a smooth paste. Apply this face mask on your skin and wash it off after 15 minutes.
You must have noticed how drinking coffee makes us feel energetic. That’s what it does to our skin. It rejuvenates our skin and brings back the lost glow on our face.
Cocoa powder is a highly effective antioxidant. Lemon juice has vitamin C, which brightens our complexion, and removes the dark spots and uneven skin tone. Honey brings the moisture back into our skin.

Bonus Face pack
It is also one of the face masks I have tried and loved. For this you need-
- 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon zest
- 1/2 tbsp orange peel powder
- 1 tbsp flaxseed power
- Rosewater
Take lemon zest, orange peel powder and flaxseed powder in a bowl. To this, add enough rose water until you get that perfect face mask consistency.
Orange peel powder gives you shiny skin by renewing your skin cells.
Flaxseed powder is like a natural hyaluronic acid. Rosewater calms down the skin and improves complexion.
Lemon zest keeps pigmentation, dark spots, acne and wrinkles at bay. The antioxidants present in it detoxify the skin.
Glow toner
This vitamin C toner will give you maximum benefits when you use it at night before hydrating your skin. For this you need-
- 1/2 cup boiled water
- 1/2 cup rose water
- Peel of one orange
In a glass bowl, put small pieces of orange peel. To this, add boiling water. Leave this orange peel infused water as it is until you feel that the water has cooled down completely. Strain this water in a spray bottle and add rose water to it. Guess what- our glow toner is ready!
Orange peel will add vitamin C into the toner, which will help in lightening brown spots and dullness. Rosewater will help in balancing the PH level of our skin.
Skin hydration
So I have combination skin, and choosing the perfect moisturizer has never been easy. Some make my skin too oily to the point I start breaking out, while others make it too dry. I have come to a conclusion after using gazillion facial creams that almond oil or shea butter works perfectly on my skin.
Just make sure that you apply shea butter or facial oil on damp skin.
The secret is that both trap in the moisture and lock it to give you soft and shiny skin.
I hope you fall in love with these skincare tips for shiny skin the way I have and get that glass skin at home.
