What are strawberry legs?

Strawberry legs refer to the dots that appear on the skin of the legs. They are usually the skin pores and hair follicles clogged with oil, bacteria and dirt. The pores on the legs are called strawberry legs because the tiny black bumps resemble the seeds on a strawberry.

8 ways to get rid of strawberry legs overnight at home

Dry brushing

I religiously do dry brushing every day before showering and, this has improved the skin texture of my legs drastically. I brush in small strokes from my feet in an upward direction towards my heart.
Dry brushing is not something that will magically help get rid of strawberry legs overnight but, with time, you will see its effects on your skin.
Dry brushing helps our body in releasing toxins. The bristles on the brush stimulate the pores and open them up. Dry brushing makes it easier for our body to sweat, because of which fewer toxins flows through our lymphatic system. It removes the dead skin cells and makes our skin soft and supple.

Abhyanga

Oil massage (Abhyanga) is very relaxing. It is the practice mentioned in Ayurveda.
I do abhyanga right after dry brushing.
In this practice, we apply warm oil to our body through a gentle and methodical massage before a bath or shower and after dry brushing.
Warm oil will open your pores and allow the oil to move into the tissues and provide nourishment.

I begin by massaging my feet and hands and move towards my heart using circular motions around my joints and long strokes along my arms and legs.
Then, I apply oil in a circular, clockwise motion across my abdomen, back, and chest.
You can pay special attention to areas where you feel pain or tightness.
Let the oil sit on your skin for 15-20 minutes.
You can use any type of oil for oil massage.
Earlier, I used coconut oil in summers, mustard oil in winters and sesame oil in other months.
Now, I am using the oil made for Abhyanga and, so far, I am loving it.

Shower

My shower begins with warm water and ends with cold water.
Warm water opens up the pores and removes oil and dirt, while cold water shrinks the size of our pores and helps in proper blood circulation.

Always use a gentle body wash during the shower so that your skin doesn’t get super dry.

Strawberry legs exfoliator

I make this body exfoliator at home and use it once a week before removing the hair on my body. For preparing it, you need-

  • 5 tbsp gram flour
  • 5 tbsp rice flour
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 4 tbsp wheat flour
  • 1/2 tbsp wild turmeric
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Rosewater/ water

Put turmeric powder, rice, wheat and gram flour in a bowl.
Add honey and milk to the dry ingredients.
Add enough rosewater/ water until you get a paste-like consistency.
Massage your body with this body exfoliator for 5-10 minutes, and then wash it off.

Gram flour is used as a skin cleanser and has zinc in it to fight infections. It calms down the skin. Wild turmeric has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It protects our skin against the harmful radiations of the sun and helps in skin rejuvenation. Rice flour is an excellent source of Vitamin B. The antioxidants present in rice flour prevent premature ageing and are really beneficial in getting rid of strawberry legs overnight. It makes our skin smoother and shiny.
Honey draws moisture from the air into our skin and hydrates it.
Wheat flour removes tan, improves the texture of our skin and makes it look brighter and tighter.
Rosewater maintains the pH balance of the skin. It hydrates and revitalises our skin. Milk contains lactic acid, which exfoliates the skin and helps you get rid of black dots on your legs.

Full body clay mask

Clay masks are being used for centuries. Along with providing nourishment, they remove excess oil and impurities.
I apply a clay mask on my entire body at least once a week.
For the clay mask, I mix a small amount of clay with warm water. Then, I apply it to my body and wash it off after 15-20 minutes.
If you have dry skin, keep the mask on for 5-10 minutes.

Hair removal method

Thanks to my genes, I have really thick hair on my legs and, I have noticed that my strawberry legs become more prominent when I use the shaving method to remove hair on my legs.
The pores on my legs have become so much smaller after I have started using an epilator.
Shaving can cause razor burns which result in strawberry legs.
Shaving results in the growth of ingrown hair. And, this is the crucial cause of strawberry legs.

Aftercare

I usually keep ice cubes in the refrigerator, which have a few drops of tea tree oil in them.
I use it after removing hair using an epilator. It not only soothes my skin but the tea tree oil present in the ice cubes also cleanses the pores on my skin because of its anti-bacterial properties.
You can also use aloe vera gel mixed with a few drops of tea tree oil. It will also have a similar effect.

Body hydration

I use whipped shea butter for hydrating my body every day after a shower, and believe me, my skin has never been this soft and shiny before. Do this simple thing and get rid of strawberry legs overnight! For the same, you need-

  • 2⁄3 cup shea butter
  • 1⁄2 cup jojoba oil
  • 4 vitamin E capsules

To prepare it

Start the double boiler on medium heat.
Once it reaches a boil, reduce heat to simmer.
Place the shea butter on top of the double boiler and cover. Make sure you do not overheat the shea butter.
Remove from heat. Carefully take the pan off the double boiler so that the water droplets do not drop on the melted butter.
Pour into a bowl. Add and mix the jojoba oil into the melted butter and allow it to cool for 10–15 minutes. Stir the oil and remove the extra butter from the sides of the bowl.

Use a regular or electric beater to beat on medium for 5 minutes. Pierce the vitamin E capsules and squeeze the gel into the melted oil. Add the essential oils if you want to, and stir well.
If the mixture is still in a liquid state, place it in the freezer for 5 minutes. Mix for another 5 minutes. Repeat this process until you get a fluffy, smooth and buttery texture.
Put this into a jar and leave it undisturbed for an hour.
Store it in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
Whenever you use it, take a small amount from the jar. Melt it between your fingertips and spread it onto damp skin.

These 8 tips have worked wonders in a short period. They have gifted me shiny legs and helped me get rid of dark pores.
