Have you ever wondered if it is possible to be a feminine feminist? Well, feminists can be feminine. And, if you think otherwise, continue reading-
Who are feminists?
If you believe that women should have the same political, social and economic rights as men, you are a feminist. Women have always faced suppression for being themselves. The pain they experienced manifested itself in the form of a movement called feminism. Feminism has nothing to do with becoming superior to men- it’s about becoming equal to them.
What are the waves of feminism?
The waves of feminism are-
- FIRST-: Feminist ideals made their appearance for the first time in the 19th century. First-wave feminism had a simple goal- to provide voting and reproductive rights to women.
- SECOND-: The second wave came in the 1960-70s. It focused on institutional reforms, including reducing gender discrimination, giving women access to male-dominated spaces, and promoting equality. It also wanted to reshape society entirely, saying that the system was inherently patriarchal and only an overhaul would bring liberation. The second wave resisted the belief that men and women were basically the same. It taught that there is a female essence that is distinct from men.
- THIRD-: The third wave came in 1990. During this wave, many women could freely express their sexuality in how they spoke, dressed, and acted. They were able to think about other aspects of their identity, welcoming their individuality.
- FOURTH-: Many people believe that the ME TOO movement and a resurgence of attacks on women rights mark the start of the fourth wave. It includes more rights among the different races and cultures and also the rights of trans women.
What is femininity?
Femininity is the art of being a woman. It includes all feminine characteristics like intuition, generosity, creativity, collaboration, care and receptivity. But, that is only a part of femininity. It’s about living life for experiences and not for achieving something.
What’s the problem with feminism?
Feminism has its own benefits. It gives women a voice to stand up for themselves; it brings more equality in the laws of society and brings more equality between the sexes. Throughout history, women have faced several issues. Feminism has brought those issues at a global level to seek the solution to the injustices happening towards women. The problem comes when feminism is disturbing the balance of the feminine energy inside women. So many women have started to work more than their capacities without any rest to become better than others. I see women ask these questions- why can’t we curse like men? Why can’t we do things men do? The problem comes when women start to lose their essence and start becoming more masculine than men.
I don’t understand since when we started considering that we have to do something like men in order to increase our own value so that we can be equal to them. Why do we consider them superior when the strength of both the feminine and the masculine energy is the same?
The characteristics of both feminine and masculine energies are different from one another. They are different from each other. But, this doesn’t mean that one is superior to the other. It’s like asking which is more superior between fire and water?
Our goals should be clear- we are standing up for our rights and not to prove that we are superior to men.
