You can get rid of open pores by being consistent with your skincare routine.
Using these things available in your kitchen also works magic-
Egg white
Egg white have hydrating and skin tightening properties because of the presence of protein in them. It contain lysozyme, which is antibacterial. An egg white face mask kills acne-causing bacteria, reduces the size of the pores and is beneficial for acne-prone skin. It is helpful in healing wounds. Egg white contains antioxidant selenium. It helps fight free-radical damage caused by overexposure to sunlight and reverses signs of ageing.
Application:
- Take egg white in a bowl and whisk it until it turns frothy.
- Clean your face.
- Then, apply the egg white on it.
- Leave it on for 10 minutes. Then, wash it off.
Coffee
Caffeine is a powerful stimulant that wakes up the skin by making the blood rush to the surface. Coffee contains antioxidants, which reduce free radical damage and help control early signs of ageing. It promotes blood circulation and gives us healthy and energised skin. It effectively reduces the swelling of tissues by de-puffing areas on the skin. Caffeine constricts the skin, thereby tightening it and shrinking the size of the pores.
Application:
- Take instant coffee in a bowl.
- Add some milk to the coffee until you get a paste-like consistency.
- Apply on a clean face for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Then, wash it off.
Green tea ice cube
Large pores are one of the reasons responsible for premature ageing. The good news is that green tea contains EGCG, which reduces excess sebum production. And, this helps in shrinking large pores- especially if you have oily skin.
Ice helps in tightening the skin. It increases blood circulation, which further helps in getting rid of the pores.
Application:
- In a bowl, add some boiling water and dip your green tea bag in it.
- Leave it in for 2-3 minutes.
- Now add green tea to each section of the ice tray.
- Keep the ice tray in the freezer and let it sit for 2-3 hours or until the green tea becomes solid.
- Apply the ice cube after cleaning your face.
- Then, proceed with your daily skincare routine.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial properties that can help remove acne. It unclogs pores from bacteria, excess oil, dirt and balances the pH level of the skin. If you have oily skin and large pores, apple cider vinegar will prove to be very beneficial. It contains alpha-hydroxy acids that can shrink and tighten pores.
Application
- Mix one part raw apple cider vinegar with two parts water in a spray bottle, and spray it on your face.
- Leave it for ten minutes. Then, rinse.
- You can also use apple cider vinegar in your clay mask by mixing 1/4th tbsp in the clay mask before applying it to the face.
Tomato
The natural acidity found in tomatoes helps in reducing and clearing up your acne. Tomatoes are rich in Vitamin A and vitamin C that help with the breakouts. Tomato is a natural astringent that you can use to reduce open pores and blackheads. It contains lycopene, which protects the skin against the damage caused by sunlight.
Application:
- Cut the tomato in half.
- Rub the pulp on your clean face.
- Leave it on for 10 minutes.
- Then, wash it off.
Clay mask
A clay mask is a must-have if you want to get rid of open pores. You can use any clay for the face mask ( kaolin clay, Multani mitti, bentonite clay etc.) Clay has multiple benefits for the skin and is also known for its healing properties. Clay masks help in unclogging skin pores and shrink them. They help in controlling the overproduction of sebum and draws out the toxins from the skin. It makes the skin softer and can be used to regenerate skin tissue.
Application:
- Take clay in a glass bowl.
- Mix it with 1/4th tbsp of raw apple cider vinegar and water.
- Stir the mixture until it is a smooth paste.
- Apply a layer of it to the face.
- Let it dry for 10-15 min or until you feel a pulling and tightening sensation.
- Remove the clay mask by washing it with warm water.
- Slight redness might appear on the skin but, that is normal.
- Make sure you use a clay mask at least once a week.
Inknut
Inknut is an ancient ayurvedic remedy to get rid of open pores. It contains vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, iron and copper, which help treat several skin and hair issues. Inknut protects our body from free radicals. Its astringent properties effectively reduce pores, inhibit melanin production, reduce wrinkles and pigmentation and make your skin flawless. Inknut is a natural toner, which flushes out the toxins in the skin, promotes overall skin health and treats various skin problems like acne, open pores, dark circles etc.

Application:
- Take 1 tbsp of inknut powder in a bowl.
- Add ½ Tbsp of gram flour/ clay to it.
- Add rose water to it until you get a paste-like consistency.
- Allow it to dry for 15- 20 minutes.
- Then, wash off with water.
Alum
Alum is good for tightening the skin. It has an astringent property that makes the cells shrink and removes excess oil from the skin. Alum also helps in reducing acne by exfoliating and cleansing the skin.
Application:
- Take 50ml of rose water.
- Add 1/4th tbsp of alum powder to it.
- Use it as a regular toner.
Nutmeg
Nutmeg not only brings flavour to our food, but it is also very effective when incorporated into our skincare. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help in clearing up acne breakouts. Nutmeg also helps balance oily skin by tightening pores and exfoliating. It has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine in face masks to improve pigmentation and acne scars.
Application:
- Take 1 tbsp organic, non-flavoured yoghurt.
- Add 1/4 tbsp nutmeg powder to it.
- Add 1/2 tbsp honey to it.
- Mix all the ingredients until you get a paste-like consistency.
- Apply it on a clean face and leave it on for 10- 15 minutes.
- Then, wash it off.
Activated charcoal
Oily skin traps dirt and other impurities from the environment, which deposit on our skin and result in clogged pores. Activated charcoal with absorptive properties can bind these impurities and excess oil. Sebum and dead skin get trapped in pores over time, which enrages pores. Using an activated charcoal mask helps loosen the debris that clogs up your pores. It also absorbs any impurity that could have slipped into your enlarged pores.
Application:
- Take 1 tbsp bentonite clay in a bowl.
- Add 1/4th tbsp manjishtha powder and 1/2 tbsp activated charcoal to it.
- Add enough water until you get a paste-like consistency.
- On a clean face, apply the face mask and leave it on for 15 minutes.
- Then, wash it off.
Getting rid of open pores is not easy. You have to be patient. But if you are consistent with your skincare routine, you will definitely see shocking results!
